March 8 marks the start of Team Detroit’s road trip to the wildly-popular festival for creative types, South by Southwest. Team Detroit is comprised of Henry Balanon, Brandon Chesnutt, David Murray and Audrey Walker (You go girl! Keep the boys in line). If you missed the kickoff event or any of the many #DETChevySXSW tweets that have already been prominent in the Twitterverse, make sure you read up on what this trip is all about.
Essentially, the team gets to ride in style to Austin in a new Chevy vehicle, completing scavenger hunt challenges along the way and competing against other teams from across the country. The winning team gets a Chevy-sponsored Tweetup in their hometown. Anyone on Twitter can help the team solve the challenges by following the hashtag and identifying tweets related to their road trip activities.
So why should you build time into your already hectic schedule to follow Team Detroit’s virtual footsteps?
1. This is something positive for our community. Team Detroit’s mission is encouraging us to rally together and support a common cause. Sure it would be sweet to win a Chevy-sponsored tweetup. But more importantly, this initiative is another step in the right direction to bringing our community together to continue proving Michigan is made up of folks who are passionate, dynamic and creative.
2. Some very cool local companies have donated items for the team to raffle away on Twitter. The more you tweet and support the team (in moderation of course, don’t drive your followers nuts!), the more likely you are to win. Who doesn’t love freebies?
3. If you couldn’t make it to SXSW this year, this is your chance to live vicariously through some of your peers. Create your own experience by helping Team Detroit solve their challenges. Be part of something that’s happening for the first time and is directly connected to the place you call home.
If you live closer to the middle of the mitten, check out Team Lansing.
The fun is about to start! No pressure Team Detroit, but do what you can to make us look good! We’ll be here cheering you on.
